Position: Greek speaking educator to teach children through play-based learning with emphasis on oral communication. Activities may include cooking, painting, Greek dancing, game boards or other creative activities. As there are NO other Greek teachers living in Kenya, the candidate can also teach adult students who have expressed interest in group as well as one-on-one learning.
Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in engaging small groups of children (2-5 pupils) of various ages to play, cook and/or dance using the Greek language. Teaching experience is highly desirable but recent teacher or preschool teacher graduates are also encouraged to apply! Knowledge of basic English is desirable but not necessary. Most children are multi-lingual learners of English, Swahili, Greek as well as at least one other language but dominant in English.
Where: International American/Canadian school based in Nairobi has agreed to host sesssions on their campus which includes classrooms, kitchen facility and outdoor playgrounds. Other locations can also be discussed and agreed with the teacher and students.
When: After school 4pm- 5:30pm twice a week as well as other times as agreed between candidate and students.
Semester 1: 20 Aug- 20 Dec (negotiable)
Semester 2: 20 Jan- 20 June (negotiable)
Salary: estimated earnings of EUR 1,000 a month to be paid directly by parents of students and adult students. Actual salary will depend on the number of group and private classes agreed by the teacher and students. Price charged per student is normally KES 2,100 per hour (approximately EUR 15 per student per hour) for group classes and more for private classes.
