Invitation to EUIPO Webinar on Designs Legislative Reform

Tuesday Webinars: Unpacking the details of the Designs legislative reform: what’s new and what’s next?

Tuesday 4 February 2025 – 10.00 – 11.00 CET

The long-awaited EU design reform is about to become a reality. After years of preparatory and legislative work, the EU design legislative reform package was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 18 November 2024.

The new provisions modernise two decades of design legislation to address the challenges posed by the virtual world, while harmonising national and EU-level provisions.

This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the legislative revision, and importantly, its practical implications for the future of design protection in the EU. Examples will be used to illustrate what these legal changes mean for designers, examiners and legal practitioners.

  • The webinar will focus in particular on the near future and will discuss amendments included in the initial phase of the EU design legislative reform, which will apply from 1 May 2025.
  • It will also look at the changes that will be developed through secondary legislation and will apply from 1 July 2026.

This webinar is for you if you are a user or potential user of the EU design system, an IP professional or a student interested in the fascinating field of design law.
